Unique Local Cuisine

No trip to Kauai would be complete without indulging in the local dining establishments and experiencing the fresh, native ingredients that make Hawaiian cuisine special. A quick three miles down the road from Kalihiwai Lani Vista are two staples of Kauai: The Kilauea Bakery & Pau Hana Pizza, and the Kilauea Fish Market.

The Kilauea Bakery & Pau Hana Pizza in the historic Kong Lung center offers pastries, charcuterie, and pizza infused with exotic Hawaiian ingredients. Chef Tom Pickett has operated the location for 25 years, creating pastries and danishes using tropical ingredients like macadamia nuts, lilikoi, fresh guava and mango, and Hawaiian chile peppers. Customers particularly rave about his coconut macaroons. His pizza combinations are a staple, including his take on the Hawaiian ham and pineapple pizza, and the “Billie Holliday,” with smoked ono and gorgonzola rosemary sauce.

The Kilauea Fish Market, as you might expect, specializes in the bountiful fresh fish in the area. The deli and restaurant offers wraps, burritos and bowls, and specialty plates. Customer favorites include Cajun Seared Ahi Sashimi Salad, Grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos, and Seared Ahi Poke Salad.

These classic Kauai staples are a stone’s throw from the Kalihiwai Beach Estate and on the way to the Kilauea Lighthouse – a highly recommended attraction.
